Arktiske skyer, aerosoler, og hvordan disse påvirker strålinstransporten gjennom atmosfæren. Bestemmelse av sky og bakke egenskaper ved bruk måledata fra både bakke og satellitt baserte. Parameterisering av arktiske sky og bakke egenskaper for bruk i globale klima modeller. Oson kjemi i stratosfæren på høye breddegrader og bruk av bakkebasert spektroskopi for å måle sporgasser i stratosfæren.

Arbeidsområder

Bestemmelse av snø og is egenskaper ved bruk av syntetisk apertur radar satellitt data. Utvikle algoritmer for måling av snødekke, vanninnhold , våthet og klassifisering av bre overflater samt evaluering av kvaliteten av disse.

Han har forkningsbakgrunn fysikalsk optikk og atmosfære fysikk. Doktorgradarbeidet var på oson kjemi og måling av sporgasser i stratosfæren ved bruk av bakkebasert spektroskopi. I 1997-2002 var han en del av forskergruppen tilhørende US Department of Energy Atmosfærestråling Måleprograms (ARM) felt stasjoner på Alaskas North Slope (NSA). Fra 1998-2003 var han leder for hurtig respons gruppen med ansvar for NSA feltstasjonene.
