The report is the result of a pre-project funded by Interreg IV A Nord (Finland and Sweden), County council of Troms, County council of Nordland, NST, the North Calotte Council, Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment in Finlandand Norwegian Interreg in Norway.

The main aim was to plan a social game-based tool for children with diabetes type 1 as well as their friends and family to learn about the condition and to socialize with others in the same situation.

A big effort was put into surveys and information gathering as the basis for requirements.

Main conclusions are:

  • Children with diabetes type 1 should be the main target group for our social gamebased tool
  • Others can play the game to try out what it is like to have diabetes 1
  • A main target for the tool should be something like: “Give children good habits
  • and knowledge so that they have a good platform when they become teenagers.”
  • The main habits are eating habits and monitoring of blood shugar level (including
  • administering insulin), but could include informing friends, physcial activities,
  • etc.
