Norut Narvik's structural engineering research group performs research and development tasks of high quality within many areas:

• Application of Finite Element method to calculations of structural mechanics and simulation of physical phenomena and processes.
• Mathematical modelling of the mechanical properties of materials.
• Use of advanced materials as composites in construction.
• Cold Climate technology, Ice mechanics and ice forces and how these affect structures.
• Product development, design of structures, virtual product development with help of CAD-modelling and numerical simulation based on finite element method.

Important fields of operation for the research group are construction and building, infrastructure, industry, energy, and oil and gas.
