Cold climate technology

The term "cold climate" refers to the combined actions of low temperatures, snow, ice and wind, and possibly also the absence of daylight in the period when the sun is below the horizon.

Cold Climate technology is technology that is specially developed to reduce disadvantages with - or exploit advantages of - the cold climate.

Norut Narvik's R&D-activities cover:

Low temperature laboratory

  • Tetsing of materials, structures and equipment in a low-temperature laboratory down to -40 deg C
  • Analysis of freezing stresses in materials
  • Snow and ice loadings on structures
  • Analysis of thermal stresses and strains in structures
  • Simulation of phase transition (freezing/thawing) in materials.
