The external conditions for the Norwegian fishing industry altered dramatically in the years around 1990.

The changes - which can be described in terms of liberalism and deregulation - called for new production methods and new ways of organizing the activity in order to keep competitive advantages. Simultaneously, the post-fordistic industrial paradigm emphasised qualitative aspects of production as being the most important for improved competitiveness.

The main research question in the project is: Which consequences have these external changes had for the Norwegian fishing industry concerning dynamic interaction between acquisition of externally generated knowledge and learning potential?
