Fiberoptic network to Rossfjordstraumen

1,5 million NOK is awarded by the HØYKOM programme to bring broadband networks to Rossfjordstraumen”, a small rural community in northern Norway. Norut IT is project manager.

The objective is to install and test a fiberoptic network for health care institutions, schools and a vocational training centre in the community. SMEs in the area will also have the opportunity to join the network.

Our project succeeded in a very tough national competition among 40 other proposals. The initiative came from the local Rossfjord community, and alliances was made with the Lenvik commune authorities and relevant organisations on the regional and national level. Norut IT was chosen as RTD partner and project manager.
- This is a very exiting project which we really believe in, says Lenvik mayor Arne Bergland. Manager of the regional broadband project in Troms, Svein Eriksen, stresses the added value he will get from a strong local infrastructure. The rural community already has a broadband wireless access network. The new fiber infrastructure connects the access network to the rest of the world, and eliminates any present or future bottlenecks.
