ColdTech – Sustainable Cold Climate Technology
The main objective of the ColdTech initiative is to establish a broad cooperative environment to perform cold climate research in Narvik. This effort includes the establishment of the Cold Climate/High North Technology Research Centre. The main consortium partners, Norut in Narvik and Narvik University College, have carried out research and development in various areas of cold climate technology since 1990. ColdTech is led by Norut. The consortium consists of Norut, Narvik University College, North Campus Energy and Norut, Luleå Technical University and DNV. The project has an initial project period of 5 years and a total budget of about NOK 75 million. Local Government and Regional Development through the Norwegian Research Council contribute approximately NOK 48 million. The project is co-funded by industry partners Shell Norge, North Energy AS, Total E&P Norge AS, Det Norske Oljeselskap ASA, Nordkraft Vind AS, Nordkraft Produksjon AS, Hammerfest Energi AS, Statkraft Energi, DAPA AS, Multiconsult adv Narvik, IKM dsc Engineering AS, and Maritimt Forum Nord. The project is divided into five research tasks:
1. Weather protection design and performance Research is conducted by Norut in Narvik, Narvik University College, Luleå University of Technology, Det Norske Veritas (DNV), Norut in Alta, and Energy Campus Nord. Academic partners are the National Research Council Canada, Archangelsk State Technical University (ASTU) and VNIIG. Project Ph.D. students are enrolled at Luleå Technical University, NTNU, Tromsø University, and University of Hertfordshire.
